 HOW CAN SUBSCRIBERS BE ADDED?

CAPTURE SUBSCRIBERS BY CREATING A FORM FOR YOUR WEB PAGE

To start capturing subscribers to a list, we're going to create an HTML form and then add it to our web page.

  1. Begin by clicking Capture Subscribers on the Control Panel.
  2. Select HTML Form.

  3. Choose which campaign list you would like this form to capture subscribers for.
  4. Click Start Capturing.

You can now make selections to customize your form before generating the HTML code.
  1. We'll leave the Confirmation URL field empty to let PushButtonResponse manage our confirmations automatically.

  2. You may choose your own Tracking Code to identify statistical results from this form, plus track and locate subscribers.
  3. Click Next Step.

TIP:  Use your form to collect special data about subscribers which you can later use to personalize your messages.

Step One: Click Yes, I would like to collect custom data, and blank fields will appear below.

Step Two: To create a new custom field, simply enter its name and it will automatically be added to the available fields (for this campaign).

Step Three: If you would like to use an existing custom field associated with this campaign, select it from the drop-down list.

The HTML Code for your form will appear on the next screen.
  1. Click the Select all button to highlight the text.

  2. Right-click on the highlighted text and choose Copy.

  1. Click Next Step.

Step two of the wizard will help Test the form to be sure it captures e-mails correctly, but first it must be added to the web page.

Keep this window open so you can return later to complete the testing.

ADD THE HTML CODE TO YOUR WEB PAGE

The following steps will differ for each user depending on the type of web site you have, how it's stored online, and what program you use to make updates.

In the following steps we will use the FREE HTML Editor "Nvu" to make our changes.

TIP: Download your own
copy of Nvu.

  1. Begin by opening the HTML page which you would like to add the
    form to.
  2. Click to move your cursor to where you would like the
    form to appear.

Because our form is HTML "code", we must adjust our editor to accept it as such.  Nvu, like many other editors gives us at least two different ways to insert the code.

  1. METHOD ONE:  Click Source to switch from the normal display mode.
  1. The HTML source of your page will appear.

AFTER EITHER METHOD:

  1. Right-click where the cursor is located and select to Paste the code.

  2. Save the file's changes.
  1. METHOD TWO:  Click the Insert menu
    and choose HTML

  1. A box to Enter the code with will appear.

UPLOAD THE CHANGES TO YOUR WEB SPACE

Nvu, like many popular HTML Editors will allow us to click Publish to send our changes immediately to our web space.

Other users will have an FTP type program to upload their changes.  In the following steps, we're using the FREE program FileZilla to login.

  1. Log into your web space.  You must have the server address, username and password provided by your web host.

TIP: Download your own
copy of FileZilla.

  1. Locate the updated version of the file on your
    local computer (Local Site).
  1. Locate the original version of the file on your
     web server (Remote Site).
  1. Drag and drop to overwrite the original version of the file.
 VIEWING AND TESTING YOUR FORM

Once the updates have been added to your web space, you are ready to preview and test your form.

  1. Browse to your web page that contains
    the form.
  2. Enter personal data such as name and e-mail address.
  3. Click Get More Info to submit the form.

A window will appear stating that you have been added to the list. You must now confirm you intentions to join by visiting a link.

  1. Check your e-mail inbox and locate the new sign-up message.
  2. Click the link contained within the message to confirm your subscription.

TIP:  Free account users must always confirm opt-ins from subscribers, but Pro users may choose to disable the confirmation.

You can now return to the HTML Form Wizard page to finishing testing your form.
  1. Enter the same e-mail address you just submitted.
  2. Click Check Email.

A message will appear to confirm that the e-mail had been successfully added to the list.

Your web site is now ready to capture new subscribers!

SEND A NEW BROADCAST MESSAGE FROM A TEMPLATE

Take advantage of your growing list and keep in touch with subscribers by sending broadcast messages with announcements or special promotions.

  1. Go to Campaigns on the toolbar and choose Send Broadcast.

  2. Select which campaign this
    broadcast will be associated with.

PushButtonResponse includes dozens of attractive templates to help customize your messages and make them stand out.
  1. Click I want to choose a template.

  2. Use the Previous and Next buttons
to flip through the available templates.
  3. Select a template by clicking its preview.

The HTML message editor will load and display your selected template.

  1. Enter a Subject line for this
    message.
  2. We can now customize the template and replace the text with our own.

In an earlier step, we added custom information fields to the sign-up form for our web page.  We can now use those fields to personalize messages to subscribers.

  1. Click the Add personalization button and click a field to insert.
  2. Click Next step at the bottom when you are done editing your message.

The next screen will allow you to select which subscribers will receive this broadcast.

  1. Select a list by checking the box
to the left of its title.
  2. Click Next step at the bottom.

TIP:  Active subscribers are awaiting follow-ups; Inactive have received all messages in that campaign's cycle.

The final step of the broadcast wizard will allow you to send the message now, or schedule it for delivery at a later time.
  1. Click Deliver this broadcast immediately.
  2. Click the Publish button at the bottom.

That's it.  The message is on its way!
